What It Is

The TecUpdater P17 is a dashboard-mounted head up display that combines OBD2 diagnostic data and GPS tracking on a single screen. It is not a projector — the display is a self-contained screen unit that sits on the dashboard and shows live driving data in a format that is readable without taking your eyes off the road for more than a moment. The screen supports multiple interface layouts that can be switched freely, so the driver can choose what data is shown and how it is arranged.

What Problem It Solves

The instrument cluster on most Indian market cars was designed to show the minimum required information. Speed, fuel, and temperature — and in many cases not even all three clearly. Checking RPM, monitoring battery voltage, or keeping an eye on coolant temperature while driving means glancing away from the road and into the cluster, which is typically positioned lower in the line of sight.

The P17 places selected data at a higher position on the dashboard, closer to the driver’s natural forward sightline. It draws engine data from the OBD2 port and GPS data from its inbuilt receiver simultaneously, giving the driver a consolidated view of what matters without instrument cluster dependency.

Installation Logic

Connect the OBD2 cable to the OBD2 port under the dashboard. Mount the P17 on the dashboard using either the suction cup mount or the included double-sided tape depending on your preference and dashboard surface. The suction cup mount is 360-degree adjustable, allowing the screen angle to be set precisely. The unit powers on automatically when the ignition is on and powers off when the engine stops. No wire cutting, no tools, no permanent modification required. Setup takes approximately three minutes.

Behaviour Explanation

Once the OBD2 cable is connected and the unit is powered, it begins pulling data from the car’s ECU via OBD2 and from the inbuilt GPS receiver simultaneously. The driver can switch between interface layouts freely — each layout presents the same underlying data in a different visual arrangement, with varying emphasis on speed, RPM, fuel consumption, temperature, or GPS parameters depending on the selected view.

The inbuilt light sensor monitors ambient brightness continuously and adjusts the screen backlight without input from the driver. In direct sunlight the screen remains clearly readable. At night brightness reduces automatically to avoid distraction or glare.
