OEM Glove Box Light Kit for VW Polo, Vento, Ameo & Skoda Rapid – Harness, Switch & Fuse Tap Included

Adds a functional glove box light to VW Polo (6R/MK5), Vento, Ameo, and Skoda Rapid — cars that left the factory without one. The light unit has a built-in mechanical switch that works with the glove box door: open the door, light comes on; close it, light goes off automatically. Kit includes the light with integrated switch, OEM-type harness, and a fuse tap for a clean, no-cut installation. An optional 31mm festoon LED upgrade is available. Mounting requires a one-time cutout on the glove box — free setup guidance is provided via phone or WhatsApp video call for every buyer.

Glove Box Light Kit for Volkswagen Polo, Vento, Ameo and Skoda Rapid – Door-Switched, Clean Harness Install

This is a glove box illumination kit built specifically for the Volkswagen Polo (PQ25/6R, India-market), Vento, Ameo, and Skoda Rapid. The light unit itself has a mechanical switch lever integrated into its body — when the glove box door is open, the lever is free and the light stays on. When you close the door, the door presses against that lever and cuts the light. No additional switch, no relay, no module — the mechanism is entirely self-contained in the light unit.

The kit is not a generic festoon holder. It is designed to mount flush into the glove box wall and function exactly as a factory-fitted unit would, had Volkswagen chosen to include one.

What Problem It Solves

None of these four cars — Polo, Vento, Ameo, or Rapid — came with a glove box light from the factory on Indian variants. The provision was either value-engineered out or simply never offered in this market. The glove box on these cars does have the physical space and door geometry that works with this switch mechanism, but there is no pre-cut mounting hole and no dedicated circuit waiting for a bulb.

This kit solves that completely. It adds the light, the switching logic, and the wiring — without touching any existing wire in the car.

Installation Logic

The harness has three connection points. One end connects to the light unit via an OEM-type coupler — no soldering, no splicing. The other two ends are a positive wire going to the fuse box via the included fuse tap, and a ground wire connected to a chassis ground point. There is no wire cutting involved anywhere in the installation.

The one step that requires care is the mounting cutout on the glove box. The glove box does not have a pre-marked or pre-thinned knockout for this light — the mounting hole needs to be cut at the correct position. This is a one-time, permanent modification to the glove box trim. It is not difficult, but it does require measuring correctly and cutting cleanly.

Every buyer gets free setup guidance — over a phone call or WhatsApp video call if needed — to walk through the cutout position and installation sequence before they start.

Behaviour Explanation

Once installed, the light operates purely mechanically. There is no coding required, no CAN bus interaction, no BCM involvement. The fuse tap draws from an always-on or ignition circuit depending on where you tap — your guidance session will confirm the right fuse slot for your specific car. The door-switch behaviour is immediate and reliable: the light is on whenever the glove box is open and off whenever it is closed, with no delays or electronics in between.

Key Compatibility

✔ Volkswagen Polo — PQ25 platform, 6R generation (India-market MK5/MK6) ✔ Volkswagen Vento — PQ25 platform, India-market ✔ Volkswagen Ameo — PQ25 platform ✔ Skoda Rapid — PQ25 platform, India-market

All four vehicles use the same harness. No fitment differences between them for this kit.

✖ Does not fit Polo 9N or earlier generations ✖ Does not fit MQB-platform vehicles (Polo 6C, AW-generation) ✖ Not tested on Skoda Fabia or any other PQ-platform variant not listed above

Who Should Buy

Polo, Vento, Ameo, or Rapid owners who want a properly functioning glove box light that looks and behaves like it came from the factory. Suitable for DIY installers who are comfortable making a single trim cutout with guidance, and for workshops doing the job on behalf of a customer.

Who Should Not Buy

Anyone expecting a zero-modification install. The glove box cutout is required — there is no way around it. If you are not comfortable with a permanent trim modification even with step-by-step guidance, this kit is not the right fit. Also not suitable for vehicles outside the compatibility list above.

Benefits

The door-switched mechanism means the light never drains your battery — it cannot be left on accidentally. The OEM-type coupler keeps the harness clean and removable. The fuse tap means no existing wire in the car is touched or compromised. And because the light mounts into the glove box wall rather than sitting loose, it looks like it was always there.

FAQs

Q: Do I need to cut any wires in my car? A: No. The harness connects to the light via an OEM coupler on one end, and uses a fuse tap and a ground connection on the other. No existing wire in the car is cut or spliced.

Q: Is coding or a diagnostic tool required? A: No. This kit has no CAN bus interaction. No coding, no OBD tool, no BCM programming — the switch logic is fully mechanical.

Q: What is the glove box cutout, and can I do it myself? A: The glove box does not have a pre-marked hole for this light. You will need to cut the mounting opening at the correct position. It is a straightforward cut once you know the exact location — and that is exactly what the free setup guidance session covers. Every buyer gets access to a phone or WhatsApp video call walkthrough before they begin.

Q: Can I use an LED instead of a standard bulb? A: Yes. The kit is compatible with a 31mm festoon LED, available as an optional add-on at checkout.

Q: Will this work on my Skoda Rapid or only on VW cars? A: It works on the Skoda Rapid as well. All four vehicles — Polo, Vento, Ameo, and Rapid — share the PQ25 platform and use the same harness from this kit.
