What It Is
This is a pair of white LED puddle lamps — left and right — designed to be fitted inside the ORVM cap housing of compatible cars. Each unit houses a high-quality white LED array behind a clear lens, projecting a clean pool of light downward onto the ground below the door mirror. The units are sized and shaped for installation in mirror housings that have sufficient internal space, and are not vehicle-specific in the conventional sense — fitment depends on the available cavity inside the mirror cap rather than a fixed connector standard.
The lights are supplied as a pair without a wiring harness. For customers who require a custom harness, TecUpdater offers a separately priced automotive-grade harness built to order — cloth tape wrapped, using automotive-grade copper wire. Contact us via phone or WhatsApp before ordering to discuss harness requirements for your specific vehicle.
What Problem It Solves
Puddle lamps are a feature found on higher-trim and premium European vehicles — they project light beneath the door mirror when the car is unlocked, illuminating the entry area and making it easier to see the ground, puddles, or obstacles when approaching the car at night. On most Indian market variants of VW, Skoda, and similar cars this feature is either absent entirely or present only on top-spec trims.
The mirror housing on many of these vehicles has a cavity that can accommodate a puddle lamp unit. This kit allows owners to add that functionality as a clean, discreet retrofit — without modifying the mirror glass, the mirror housing structure, or any visible external surface of the car.
Installation Logic
Installation involves two steps: fitting the lamp units into the ORVM cap, and connecting them to a power source.
Fitting the units:
The ORVM cap on most compatible cars can be removed by unclipping it from the mirror body. The puddle lamp unit is positioned in the available cavity inside the cap, facing downward through an opening in the cap base. The exact mounting method depends on the mirror housing geometry of the specific vehicle — users should inspect their ORVM housing before ordering to confirm there is sufficient space and a suitable opening for the lamp unit.
Wiring:
The lamps need to be connected to a 12V power source. Two options work well — tapping into the footwell or cabin light circuit, which activates the puddle lamps when the door is opened, or connecting to a suitable always-on or door-triggered fuse in the fusebox. The specific circuit used determines when the lamps activate. No harness is included — customers who need a ready-made harness should contact TecUpdater separately before ordering.
Coding:
On cars that have factory puddle lamp wiring already present in the ORVM — where the mirror connector has a dedicated puddle lamp pin — plugging into that existing wiring may require VCDS or OBD coding to enable the puddle lamp output. On cars without existing puddle lamp wiring, no coding is required as the lamps are powered directly from the chosen circuit.
Behaviour Explanation
Once wired, the puddle lamps activate based on the circuit they are connected to. Wired to the door/cabin light circuit, they come on when the door is opened and go off when the door is closed — the most natural behaviour for a puddle lamp. Wired to an always-on fuse with a door-triggered relay, the same behaviour can be replicated with more control over timing. The white LED output is clean and consistent — no warm-up delay, no flicker, immediate activation.
Key Compatibility
These lamps are not fitment-specific to a single vehicle model. Compatibility depends on whether the ORVM housing of your car has sufficient internal cavity space to accommodate the lamp unit, an opening or cuttable position at the base of the mirror cap for the light to project downward, and access to a suitable 12V wiring source — either existing puddle lamp wiring in the mirror connector or an external wire run from the cabin or fusebox.
Commonly fitted on: Volkswagen Polo, Vento, Ameo, Jetta, Passat, Golf, Tiguan; Skoda Octavia, Superb, Rapid, Laura; and other vehicles with compatible mirror housing geometry.
Customers fitting these to vehicles outside this list should inspect their ORVM housing carefully before ordering. If unsure, contact us on WhatsApp with a photo of the mirror cap interior and we will advise on fitment suitability.

Who Should Buy
VW, Skoda, and compatible car owners who want to add puddle lamp functionality to their ORVM as a clean, factory-style retrofit. Suitable for experienced DIY installers comfortable with basic automotive wiring and trim removal. Also suitable for workshop installation.
Who Should Not Buy
Anyone expecting a fully plug-and-play install with a harness included — this kit supplies the lamp units only. Customers who are not comfortable with basic wiring or trim removal should have this installed by a workshop. Not suitable for vehicles whose ORVM housing does not have space for the lamp unit — inspect before ordering.
Benefits
The white LED output is immediate and consistent, with no warm-up time. The units are compact enough to fit inside most compatible European mirror housings without structural modification. The custom harness option from TecUpdater means the wiring can be done properly with automotive-grade materials rather than improvised solutions. Because the lamps are wired to an existing circuit rather than creating a new one, the installation is clean and does not add unmanaged load to the vehicle’s electrical system.

FAQs
Q: Is a harness included with this kit?
A: No. The kit includes the left and right lamp units only. If you need a custom harness for your vehicle, contact us via phone or WhatsApp before ordering and we will provide one at a separate price. Our harnesses use automotive-grade copper wire with cloth tape wrapping.
Q: Will these fit my VW Polo or Skoda Rapid?
A: These fit vehicles where the ORVM cap has sufficient internal space for the lamp unit. The Polo, Vento, Ameo, Rapid, Octavia, and several other VW/Skoda models are commonly fitted with these. Inspect your mirror cap interior before ordering to confirm space availability.
Q: Do I need VCDS coding to activate these?
A: It depends on your car. If your mirror connector already has a puddle lamp wire present from the factory, connecting to that wire may require VCDS or OBD coding to enable the output. If you are running a separate wire from the footwell or fusebox, no coding is required.
Q: Where should I connect the power wire?
A: The most common approach is to tap into the footwell light or cabin light circuit, which activates the puddle lamp when the door opens. Alternatively, a suitable fuse in the fusebox can be used. Contact us for guidance on your specific vehicle if unsure.
Q: Can these be fitted to non-VW or non-Skoda cars?
A: Yes, provided the ORVM housing has sufficient internal space. These are not electronically vehicle-specific — fitment is a question of physical space inside the mirror cap. Share a photo of your mirror cap interior on WhatsApp and we will confirm suitability before you order.
